چکیده

The desire to perform information processing, computation, communication, signal generation and related tasks, while dissipating as little energy possible, has inspired many ideas paradigms. One of the most powerful among them is notion using magnetostrictive nanomagnets primitive units hardware platforms manipulating their magnetizations with electrically generated static or time varying mechanical strain elicit myriad functionalities. This approach two advantages. First, can be retained in devices after powering off since are non-volatile unlike charge-based such transistors. Second, expended a given task exceptionally low it takes very alter magnetization states strain. field now known "straintronics", analogy electronics, spintronics, valleytronics, etc. We review recent advances trends straintronics, including digital processing (logic), storage (memory), domain wall operated strain, control skyrmions non-Boolean computing machine learning (microwave sources) communication (ultra-miniaturized acoustic electromagnetic antennas) implemented strained nanomagnets, hybrid straintronics-magnonics, interaction between phonons magnons straintronic systems. identify key challenges opportunities, lay out pathways advance this point where might become mainstream technology for energy-efficient

Separating read and write units in multiferroic devices

Strain-mediated multiferroic composites, i.e., piezoelectric-magnetostrictive heterostructures, hold profound promise for energy-efficient computing in beyond Moore's law era. While reading a bit of information stored in the magnetostrictive nanomagnets using a magnetic tunnel junction (MTJ), a material selection issue crops up since magnetostrictive materials in general cannot be utilized as t...

A Structural-magnetic Strain Model for Magnetostrictive Transducers

This paper addresses the modeling of strains generated by magnetostrictive transducers in response to applied magnetic elds. The measured strains are dependent upon both the rotation of moments within the material in response to the eld and the elastic properties of the material. The magnetic behavior is characterized through the consideration of the Jiles-Atherton mean eld theory for ferromagn...
